Ward head shootRYAN WARD - HEAD COACH 

Ryan Ward was introduced as the sixth head coach in team history on May 17, 2022.

Ward spent the last two seasons as the Director of Player Personnel for the USHL's Tri-City Storm, working with former Phantoms Head Coach Anthony Noreen. A native of Assonet, Massachusetts, Ward also spent time with the Soo Greyhounds (OHL), San Antonio Rampage (AHL), Toronto Marlies (AHL), Toronto Maple Leafs, and New York Islanders. 

Ward currently resides in Canfield with his wife, Jessica, and their three children.

Gooter Head shooterBRANDON GOTKIN - ASSOCIATE COACH

Brandon Gotkin joined the Youngstown Phantoms during the 2021 - 2022 season as their Assistant Coach.  Brandon came to the Phantoms from the Maryland Black Bears of the NAHL, who are an affiliate of Black Bear Sports Group. Brandon spent three seasons with the Black Bears under the mentorship of Head Coach and GM, Clint Mylymok.

In his time in Maryland, the team made considerable strides leading up to their first NAHL Eastern Conference playoff appearance and first-round win vs the Johnstown Tomahawks.  Brandon has been with Maryland since their inception and was an integral piece of their team's success on and off the ice.   


 

REDMOND BROW - DIRECTOR OF HOCKEY OPERATIONS

Redmond Brow began his coaching career at Noble and Greenough Prep School in 2016 before becoming an assistant coach at Salve Regina University in 2018. During his time there, he helped guide the team to a National Title game appearance and a Conference Final the following season. In 2020, he joined Bemidji State University as an assistant coach. Brow then moved to Chicago, where he served as Programs Director of Goaltending for the Windy City Storm and an assistant coach for national-bound teams, helping them reach the USA Hockey Nationals in back-to-back seasons. He spent the 2022–23 season as an assistant coach with the North Iowa Bulls in the NAHL and served as the head coach of Team Maryland 15O during the 2023–24 season. He has also been a scout for the Youngstown Phantoms since the 2022–23 season.


AMBER MARTINELLI - ATHLETIC TRAINER

Amber Martinelli is joining the Phantoms for her second season as our athletic trainer. She is provided through a partnership with UPMC Sports Medicine. Prior to the Phantoms, Amber spent time as the athletic trainer with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite AAA hockey organization.

Amber attended Capital University where she received her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. She received her master's degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh. Amber is a licensed athletic trainer in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Head shotTOMMY MALLOY - HEAD STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH

Tommy Malloy is entering his third season as the head of strength and conditioning for the Phantoms.
 
Malloy is responsible for coordinating year-round performance program design and implementation for the Phantoms organization as well as overseeing the sport science department. Malloy is provided via a partnership with Northeast Sports Training and Rehabilitation (Warwick, RI),
 
Before arriving in Youngstown prior to the 2022-23 season, Malloy served as a Performance Specialist for EXOS while also making stops as an intern under the Olympic sport performance staff at the University of Louisville and Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, KY,
 
The Cumberland, RI native graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a master's degree in exercise physiology. 
 
Malloy is certified with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. 


neil conway NEIL CONWAY - GOALTENDING DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Neil grew up in Painesville, Ohio playing youth hockey across Cleveland. Neil then played in the OJHL for the Stouffville Spirit and was drafted to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and played for the Owen Sound Attack and Oshawa Generals while also spending time with the Greenbay Gamblers (USHL). Neil then went on to play at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia completing his Bachelor's Degree in Business. Neil played 4 years of professional hockey in North America as well as in Europe; ECHL, EIHL (England)  and Italy. 

Neil was also a member of Team USA at the u17 Five Nations Tournament and u18 Hlinka Tournament. 

Neil was the goaltending coach for NCAA Colgate and coached professional hockey for Fehervar AV19 in the Austrian Pro League.
