PIETILA’S OT WINNER LIFTS YOUNGSTOWN PAST MUSKEGON

LACHANCE SCORES TEAM-LEADING 15TH; TWO-POINT NIGHT FOR CERBONE; WINN STOPS 15

BOX SCORE

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Chase
Pietila's power play goal with 1:13 left in overtime lifted the Youngstown Phantoms (10-8-3-1, 24pts) past the Muskegon Lumberjacks 2-1 Friday night at the Covelli Centre.

Muskegon led 1-0 on the strength of Sacha Boisvert's first period goal, but only managed to get 16 shots on Colin Winn for the game, just five in the third period. Tyler Dunbar was called for interference at 12:48 of the third period, sending Youngstown to their seventh power play of the game. The Phantoms had failed to click on the first six man-advantages, but this time Youngstown cashed in. Shane Lachance put home the rebound of a Pietila wrister, knotting the game at 1-1. It was Lachance's team-leading 15th goal of the season. Lachance has the most power play goals in the USHL with eight and is second overall in total goals.

Neither team scored in the remaining 5:50 of regulation, sending the game to overtime. Just before the halfway point of the extra period, Kenta Isogai drew a hooking call on Easton Young, sending the Phantoms back to the power play. With time ticking down on the power play and in overtime, Pietila found room in the right circle. With Conor Callaghan (31 saves) already down in the butterfly, Pietila aim high and found the back of the net, giving Youngstown the 2-1 victory.

"At the end of the day, as ugly as it was, it was good to get two points out of this game," said Phantoms Head Coach Ryan Ward.  "Obviously coming from behind again, and our power play came up big in the third period and overtime. I thought the (penalty) killers did a good job." Youngstown finished 5/5 on the penalty kill for the game.

Youngstown plays its final game before the Christmas break tomorrow against Muskegon with a 7:05pm puck drop at the Covelli Centre.
