YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Youngstown Phantoms are proud to announce the additions of Pavol Funtek and Martin Misiak from the Slovakian World Junior team. 
 
Funtek, a 6'6", 210-pound, left-shot defenseman, hails from Bratislava, Slovakia and was acquired from Kettera U20 in the top Finnish junior league.  Pavol made his Phantoms debut over the weekend playing in three games while picking up an assist with a +3 rating. Funtek was named a "Top-3 Player" on Team Slovakia at the World Junior Championships that just concluded in Nova Scotia earlier this month.
 
Misiak comes to Youngstown from HC Nove Zamky, which participates in the top Slovakian league. He has amassed 1 goal and 9 assists for 10 points in 29 games.  The 6'2", 198-pounder has played in back-to-back World Junior Championships for Team Slovakia, playing in six total games and putting up one assist. 
 
Youngstown Co-GM's Jason Deskins and Ryan Kosecki stated "We are ecstatic to have Pavol and Martin join our club.  They are both very talented players that will help us in our push for the playoffs and beyond.  Pavol is a big, long, and heavy shutdown defenseman that will be great playing against teams' top lines, on the penalty kill, and in defensive situations late in games.  He gives us something that we don't have currently, so he is a welcomed addition to our program"
 
Deskins added "Martin is a high-end player that is expected to make a big impact in all three zones of the rink.  He has elite speed, skill, and intelligence which will make him very tough to play against and an invaluable piece to our team.  Martin is a game-changing addition to the Phantoms and we could not be more excited to reunite him with Pavol in Youngstown."
